Celebrating 10 Months!

We’re almost there!

Can you believe Baby Z is now 10 months old (plus a week!)?

This past month has been a game changer for him! And what I mean by that is he’s completely gone from infant to little person.

Right now, he weighs in at 20 pounds, 29″ long, and his head in the 99th percentile.

Over the last 4 weeks we’ve watched him develop such a fun personality! He’s starting to communicate and socialize through lots of different sounds, facial expressions, pointing, gesturing, and even some early signing. (Right now everything is “milk” although we’re starting to get “more”.)

He is a rockstar at crawling and can get pretty much anywhere he wants to go. If you see him bolting across the floor it’s probably because he’s either 1) spied the dog door open or 2) noticed a bathroom door open. His favorite places to be are either outside (which he’ll get to any means necessary) or playing in the bathroom toilet.

Why can’t kids ever play where you actually want them to play?

He and his brother are definitely beginning to understand the term “brotherly love.” M can be very hot and cold around him depending upon what Baby Z is doing, but for the most part, they get along great! Z just needs to learn the difference between he and his brothers toys and life would be great…according to his brother!  But seriously, they play so well together sometimes it can be a little scary for a mom as the Little Man doesn’t realize his own strength. To him, as long as Baby Z is laughing, it’s all good!

As I’ve mentioned, he’s definitely hit some major developmental milestones this month, including the ability to wave with 1 hand and he can now stand on his own (if motivated and distracted away from his feet!) This afternoon, I watched him stand and stare at his Grammy for a good solid 10 seconds before realizing he could sit down.

His eyes are still a gorgeous blue, and we’re holding our breath they’ll stay this way!

His teething is in full force. The poor guy has been constantly congested for over a month now and has been drooling to no end. Fortunately, last week he gained 2 new teeth in 2 days which  brings our grand total to 6! That night he slept better than he has since he was 6 months old! Like I said, poor guy!

Don’t get me wrong, he’s definitely had his fussy moments this month…week…day…hour! But, he brings such joy to our day every time we see that toothy smile! I can’t wait to see what the next few months hold as he celebrates his first Thanksgiving, Christmas, and soon, birthday!

Which brings me to…why didn’t anyone warn me how difficult it would be to have to plan a birthday party two weeks after the New Year? Definitely regretting that decision now!

Celebrating My Boys on the 14th

If it hadn’t clicked yet, you may not have realized that my sons were born on the same day! Baby Z was born on January 14th and the Little Man was born on March 14th.  (Side Fact: Tim and I began dating on September 14th and were married on August 14th). So, I’m already hoping if we have more children I can somehow arrange for them to born on the 14th as well. Or do you think that’s overkill? :)

So, this past weekend was September 14th and both my boys celebrated a birthday!

The Little Man turned 2 1/2 and Baby Z turned 8 months old!

I went back and forth whether or not to give them each their own post, but I think I finally have to accept reality. They’re now brothers and they’re just going to have to learn to start sharing!

The Little Man at 2 1/2

My updates for the Little Man are slightly different than those for Baby Z. I have no idea how tall he is! I have no idea how much he weighs!

What I do know is that I can no longer put things on the counter top if I want to keep it out of his reach. He’s eating us out of house and home. And he’s my “best friend!”

My favorite things about him right now is how much he loves to learn and how sweet he is to his brother (most of the time!)

This kid is slightly ridiculous, and it will probably come across as bragging, but all I can say is he is what I imagine Tim like as a boy. He can tell you the names of dinosaurs. He knows all the names of whales. He likes to know the actual names of his grandparents and Mommy & Daddy. He’s fascinated by airplanes, helicopters, and rocket ships.

But as smart as he is, he also picks up things very quickly! Especially those things we DON’T want him to pick up on and I won’t have even noticed until he started repeating it! It only took 1 time for me to realize he was repeating the song lyrics he’d heard on my car radio. After watching Madagascar, be began spitting his water out at me and thinking it was hilarious! And after watching Toy Story, he learned the words “Stupid Dog.” We immediately put a stop to that!

He’s kind and loving. He’s helpful and caring. He’s such a great kid!

Baby Z at 8 months

Baby Z now has 2 bottom teeth and I’m pretty sure he’s working on more. The drool, fussiness, and biting is never-ending! We’re now able to eat baby snacks which is helpful. Mum-Mums, Freeze Dried Yogurt, and Lil Crunchies from Gerber all help with the teething and provide entertainment. He’s eating up to 3 solid meals a day and down to 3-5 bottles a day.

He’s definitely making me work now! He’s crawling and going after everything! He’s also gotten really good and climbing which has resulted in a few bumps on the head.

This past weekend we went through sleep training and it was a very similar experience to the first time. By night 3 he went from waiting up 1-3 times a night to sleeping from 8pm-5am. Now he’s sleeping from 8-5, and going back to sleep til 7am after having a bottle. He’s still napping twice a day (9am & 2pm), but they’re getting shorter!

His favorite toy is a Whoozit. It’s almost equivalent to a lovie. He goes everywhere with it! He also loves to roam in his walker and bounce in his bouncer. He’s basically now over the floor gym because who has time to sit still like that!

He’ll have his 9 month check up next month, but I’m pretty sure he’s just over 20 pounds. His eyes are still bright blue, and we’re now left wondering if they will change at all.

I’m having so much fun being a mom to these two boys!!

Baby Z: 3 & 4 Months Old

I’ve been doing such a terrible job lately of recording milestones! I swore to myself that I would not be one of those mom’s who did everything for their first child, and then, their second had nothing. No surprise, but I’m eating my words once again. Isn’t that so typical of parenthood though?

I was doing so well about taking photos of Baby Z each month for his birthday, until month 3. Although I captured a photo for his 3 month birthday, I never posted it. Why? Kept running out of time until it just became outdated news, and then, there was the fact that the pictures didn’t turn out as I’d hoped.

My loving toddler decided he needed to be in the photo too, and the crushing love was a little too much for the baby.

But, I think this month’s photo definitely made up for the last one, AND I’m actually posting about it within a week of his birthday. I think that’s an accomplishment!

4 Month Stats:

almost 16 lbs. (62th %)

25.25 inches (59th %)

17.2″ head (96th %)

New Talents:

clasps hands together frequently, lots and lots of drool (which I assume means there will be teeth soon!), sleeping is irregular (typically down by 9pm & up twice a night), loves to laugh and smile when we make funny faces, makes a cute velocirapter noise when he laughs, loves bath time; especially with Brother, nursing like crazy right now (which I’m hoping is due to a growth spurt or teething)

Of course, all of this remind me that I’ve also become the parent I said I’d never be. It’s hard to not constantly compare #1 to #2. From their sleeping habits to their doctor’s appointments, they’re so completely different in every way.

I have a lot of people telling me the opposite. We’ve had several comments that Baby Z looks a lot like the Little Man, but I have to disagree. Baby Z is a spiting image of my side of the family, and M takes after Tim’s side of the family. They definitely both have my eyes, but I don’t see Hurst when I look at him. (Sorry Hursts!)

Here’s my Little Man at 4 months.

What do you think; similar or different?
