Buried in a Pile of Emails and Events

When I took ownership of Dallas Moms Blog back in May, I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into! What I thought would be a little tinkering here and there and a dab of this and that has turned into (almost) a full time job.

I’m doing my best to balance two lifestyles…

Stay at home mom by day.

Work at home mom by night; and nap times.

I consider myself so thankful to be able to spend time with my boys while they’re growing up. I know how fortunate I am to stay at home with them and watch as the reach their milestones, but at the same time, when your work day begins at the end of a long day with your kids, it can be exhausting!

When I took on the role of owner, a lot of plans and events were already rolling. There were some ideas I had to try out on my own to know whether they’d be a success or failure. My time since taking on the site has finally reached a peak. With play dates , 1 promotional event, and contributor meeting in the past, Project Mom quickly approaching this weekend, and our Moms Night Out and Date Night just weeks away, I can’t tell you have excited and relieved I’ll be once October 14th roles around!

For the rest of the year, I’ll be able to focus on just maintaining instead of creating. I’ll be ready for a much needed break from the chaos of planning and coordinating, and can once again put the focus back on my family-literally! Once Dallas Moms Blog shuts down its events for Fall, I’ll be hopping in the car on my birthday weekend to celebrate my marriage at Weekend to Remember in OKC.

Although it’s just Oklahoma, I can’t WAIT to enjoy some time in the car with my husband, reading my latest Book Club book, and catching up on a little personal blogging.

But that still seems light years away.

So for now, I need to put my head down and plow through. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. We’re just not quite there yet!

Want to see what my team has worked so hard on the last 3 months?

Come to one of our events and see me in action! I’d love to have you there!

DMB - Invite - 4x4

Our Family Getaway to San Antonio

Months ago VisitSanAntonio.com offered my family a weekend stay in San Antonio in exchange for writing about it for Dallas Moms Blog. With all the craziness going on in our lives, the weekend popped up out of no where and I didn’t have a clue what we were going to do in the city!

SeaWorld was an obvious must, but I was completely clueless as to where we should go, what we should see, and whether the Little Man would have a total meltdown like he did in Austin that would almost ruin the trip.

I decided to try and have a totally different attitude going into this trip and just go with the flow. We made the decision early on to leave Baby Z with the grandparents so we could focus more on enjoying our time rather than when the next feeding is, and I think that definitely helped have a more relaxing trip.

I’ll split up our weekend into two posts because SeaWorld is definitely in a class all its own, but here’s a few pictures I snapped while we went sight-seeing on Saturday!

Our 1st Family Visit to the Alamo

Visiting the Tower of the Americas from the World’s Fair

Visiting the San Antonio Children’s Museum

Walking around the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch

The Little Man was obsessed with the pygmy goats…to a point where we almost had to take one home as our new pet!

By the end of the weekend, we had an amazing time, and I honestly can’t wait to go back to the Alamo City! You can head over to Dallas Moms Blog today to read all about our trip and see more photos in my 3 part series: San Antonio Weekend Vacation with a Toddler

Dallasmomsblog screenshot You may have seen me hinting about it over Twitter and Facebook this week, but today officially marks a new beginning in my life. As of late last night, I’m now Krystal, small business owner.

Since last August, I’ve been in-training with Dallas Moms Blog. As time has gone on, it was undecided whether I would be a partner with the current owner or if  I’d take over the blog completely. It all hinged on her husband’s plans after seminary and how much of a working mom she wanted to be. But in the end it was decided (through lots of prayer) for her to move on from the blog and hand it over to me.

“Hand over” is a very, very loose term because there was a lot of logistics and legal and financial obligations involved before I officially became owner.

So, what does owning a blog mean?

It means that I no longer blog as a hobby, but instead it’s a career path for me. And one that I’m really excited about!

Since I left teaching, I wasn’t sure what the rest of my life would look like from a working perspective. I knew I wanted to go back to work one day… I’m too antsy not to, but I didn’t know where I would fit in with the business word.

From one answered prayer to another, Dallas Moms Blog was placed into my lap, and although owning a business is always a gamble, I knew it was meant to be. I’m good at it, and I know it can be successful!

What about this blog?

The whole time I’ve been employed by Dallas Moms Blog, I struggled with running The T-Shirt Mama and trying to actively grow this site, but also putting my heart into DMB.

Do I write this awesome find on Dallas Moms Blog or do I save it for my blog? Do I pursue this sales opportunity for The T-Shirt Mama or do I let DMB have it? Do I spend 3-4 days writing for The T-Shirt Mama or do I use that time to make the backside of DMB better for SEO?

I worked really hard to try and make both a success, but at most, I can only give 50% of myself to each site which isn’t fair to either one. So, after a lot of careful consideration, I’ve decided it’s time to give 100% of my time to Dallas Moms Blog and let this blog be what it was intended to be;  an outlet for my thoughts and a connection to my family.

Where can I stalk you now?

As of this weekend, I’ll no longer actively be using my The T-Shirt Mama Facebook page. It’s just one extra medium to be in charge of and “ain’t nobody got time for that!” Hopefully you’re already friends with me on Facebook, and you can always find me there. I also love being random on Twitter and Instagram.

And of course, I’ll still continue to blog on this site, but it might not be as frequent and it might only be about my adventures with my boys (and hopefully not my failing business!)

How can I support you?

Why thanks for asking!!

If you want to help support me (and my family) in my new business adventure, make sure to follow Dallas Moms Blog! Rockin’ Railroad at Kidville Dallas

A few weeks ago, the Little Man (and I) started taking a morning class at Kidville in the Preston/Royal Shopping Center.

Not familiar with Kidville? Don’t worry! Neither was I until a few months ago! Our first encounter with Kidville was spending a few days in their Play Village and hanging out in their gym.

Then recently, Dallas Moms Blog contributors were offered an opportunity to try a semester of one of their classes. Although we loved the play areas, other than the description I was given in the brochure, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I signed up for the Rockin’ Railroad class on Thursday mornings:

Each week, a rockin’ crew and “conductor” take you on a journey through tempo, rhythm, word recognition, and sound identification.
The class explores a different instrument and musical genre each week and meets special puppet friends along the way.
We make stops at fun destinations including Instrumentville and Grandma’s House before heading back to Kidville Station!

We’ve now been going to the Rockin’ Railroad class for 3 weeks now, and we absolutely LOVE it! I never knew how much my son loved to dance and move until now. Of course, I don’t play an instrument, so he’ll probably never have as much fun with me as he does in the class.

During the 45 minute class, we’re entertained by a live band complete with keyboard, drums, and guitarist. There are typically 2 singers who use a mixture of children’s songs and pop songs to tell stories while we “journey” around the room pretending to be on a railroad. Each week they focus on a new instrument from Instrumentville that the kids all get to try and play with. Last week was the triangle, and I loved watching the Little Man’s brain turning as he tried to hold and tap the triangle at the same time.

His favorite part is when they sing the “imagination song” at Grandma’s House and bring out the bubble maker. His eyes get really wide, and he’s completely memorized by the whole thing!

If you’re interested in joining us, you’ll find a complete list of Kidville classes on their website. And if you live within 15-20 minutes of Kidville, I highly recommend you giving one of them a try. By signing up, not only will you get 16 weeks of a class of your choice, but you’ll have unlimited access to their Indoor Gym and passes into the Play Village; which is basically worth it right there!

*Although Kidville provided my son with a free class, I was not paid for writing this post. All opinions expressed are 100% my own!

I’m Cheating On My Blog

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time over on my other blog while I forget my troubles at home.
At Dallas Moms Blog, I feel like I’m more than just a mom sitting around watching Elmo.
It’s amazing how sitting down to write and reaching over 400 local woman through my writing can make you feel empowered. After all, I went to college and got a degree!

Writing has always been a passion of mine,
and I love that I can have a piece of my former life in with my new one.

The other part that’s been distracting me is that we’re starting to work on our next DFW Mom’s Night Out! Although the first one was a lot of fun, I’ve taken on a more important role this time. I’ll be in charge of Public Relations! Eek! I’m currently looking for sponsors and donations for the big event, and will be working around the clock trying to fill our swag bags!

If you’ve been missing my writing, here’s some of the posts I’ve done lately that you can head over and read!

DMB Friday: Discovering Celebration Park in Allen

Today on Dallas Moms Blog, I’m reviewing Celebration Park in Allen, Texas.

You can read all about it here!

In an attempt to not overwhelm our readers with pictures, I only included a few in the post, but it was such a beautiful day in Allen and I couldn’t imagine not sharing the rest of them with you.

It really was a breathtaking park!
One of several covered pavilions.
The spray grounds.

A panoramic view of the enormous playground.
 A view from the top!

What my toddler sees.
And we’re learning to climb!
What’s one of your favorite parks?

DMB Friday: Golfing Goes Hi-Tech

A few weeks ago in our Happily Ever After class at church, we were given the task of coming up with a unique date night. I was originally thinking this would be difficult because I’d like to say that we’ve done just about everything in Dallas. We’ve been to the top restaurants, gone to sporting events (more times than I can count), and tried various activities around the metroplex. So, I was a little taken aback when Tim selected TopGolf

My first thought was. . .oh yeah! We haven’t done that.

My second thought was . . .I don’t like golf.

Why would I want to go and “hit a few balls”? Could that be any more boring? Can you tell I had a slightly bad attitude about it?

Read more about my hi-tech golfing experience on today’s post at Dallas Moms Blog!

And yes, that’s my husband right there on the front page!

I made him famous! 😉

DMB Friday: Filling Your Child’s Piggy Bank

Psst! I’m over at Dallas Moms Blog today talking about money.
Sounds boring, but I promise you’ll want to read it!

Dallas Moms Blog: Filling Your Child’s Piggy Bank

Behind the scenes, I did a lot of research for this blog post, and I was quite proud of myself! When it comes to financial matters, I’m usually pretty clueless. I can pay the bills and keep a budget, but as far as investments and financial planning, it goes in one ear and out the other.

When Mark received money for his birthday, I really wanted to be purposeful in what we did with it. People were trusting us to make sure it went to him or towards him even though he’s not old enough to use it on his own yet. So, I took to the internet to find the best way to invest his new savings, and revealed my findings on Dallas Moms Blog.

I hope you’ll read over the article carefully, and find that investing in your child’s future is something to stop and, at least, think about!

For those of you who are curious. . . we went with a 529 plan. But once again, I leave up how the money is invested in that 529 to Tim. Some things never change!

Thirty by 30: No.26 & Giveaway

As a contributing writer for DallasMomsBlog.org, one of the perks is being able to help promote local and national businesses through the blog. So, when our co-founder Lauren asked if anyone wanted to attend the H&M VIP Preopening event at the Galleria, I jumped on the opportunity!

For the last 6 months or so, I’ve been watching as they’ve been slowly putting this store together. I’ve been so excited for it to open because it’s much more accessible to me than Northpark or Willow Bend. It would be so easy to hop up to the second floor and do a quick shop after Baby Boot Camp if I needed to.

Let me just say, the evening did not disappoint!
It was a red carpet event with a DJ and photographer at the door. Upon entering I was greeted with a glass of champagne and mini desserts. (I think the chocolate eclairs and cream puffs were my favorite!) I took some time walking around to survey the store.

To be honest, the last few times I’ve been in an H&M I’ve been slightly disappointed. I noticed since the brand has come to Dallas, all I’ve been able to find is “teeny-bopper” style clothes. Skinny jeans in bright colors, 80’s style middrif shirts, and neon prints with large lettering. Not typically what a woman my age would wear. Maybe it’s the new spring collection, but after exploring the different sections, I quickly grabbed a bag and knew I’d fallen in love with H&M again!

Before I knew it, I’d found several cute outfits, and was grabbing product left and right. Jewelry, headbands, shirts, dresses. Everything was so well organized, it was easy to find my style and colors that worked for me. Not to mention, how easy it was to shop knowing I was going to get an extra 25% discount for being at the VIP event.

Within an hour, I’d filled up my bag, and headed to the register. As I was leaving the store, I realized I’d completed #26 on my Thirty by 30 list without even trying!

Okay, so I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look at any of the prices. . .but I will say, that the prices didn’t stop me from buying an outfit which was my ultimate goal of this task.

H&M Galleria opens at noon today. If you have time over the next few days, I highly suggest you head over and browse around! In my opinion, it is much better than Northpark or Willow Bend with the layout being more appealing to women in my age group. It’s easy to shop with very reasonable prices, and they’ve even thrown in a few sales for their opening. (Did you see the top I got above for $5?!)

But if you can’t make it, don’t worry! I was thinking about you last night when I had my discount and decided to buy a few small things for my readers.

Feather Earrings
Gold Pineapple Necklace
